Ocean acidification is caused by increasing atmospheric CO2 which is then absorbed into the ocean, and nutrient enrichment occurs on populated coastlines worldwide. The effects of ocean acidification are variable among non-calcareous primary producers and nutrient enrichment is known to cause macroalgae blooms. My research focuses on how nutrient enrichment effects will change in the future with a more acidified ocean.

In the summer of 2015 I had the opportunity to complete a part of my thesis in Hobart, Tasmania with Dr. Catriona Hurd through the NSF East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute grant. Our team was the first to use the new state-of-the-art ocean acidification system to determine the effects of ocean acidifcation and eutrophication on Ulva.

During my internship with the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation Marine Lab I completed many experiments involving macroalgal physiology. I also completed field surveys of seagrass and macroalgae at many sites thoughout the bay. Learn more here.
